5/100 ☮ River Phoenix
One of my old ones in paper. I have special love for all of them, so re-posting it again in this top100.
This one related to the conversation I had yesterday with the adorable i-shall-be-released. It’s a good example of the things I read those days than made me cry again. It’s not the things they say but the tone. Well, not all Fantastic team could be fan of the boy.
Things like that don’t bother me nowadays, in fact I also think that “prodigio de actor” thing, but I’ve been always a very sensitive person and I was then more than now. I was very innocent. I mean, not in the prude or silly way (we all knew a lot of actors and musicians did drugs: they always did, they do these days) but… in the “perfect model” way. I’ve always been quite troubled and then I thought I kinda needed perfect models. I already had Rourke for all the fucking bad boy things. I needed exceptions. And he was that, on screen (his “perfect sons” and “perfect friends”) and IRL. And this kind of things were a bit cruel, you know, they basically say: “Oh, it seems your pretty prince was a fucking addict, uh? Like everyone else”.
Then I started suffering less, reading more (understanding more, ‘cause he’s not the typical “doing it for partying” one, he didn’t “needed” the drugs as the article say, he needed “an escape”, he tried the things he could) and thinking in a different way. I don’t need “perfect models”, what I’ve always needed is people with scars that fall but stand up again, and again, and again, and he’s a great example. He had a not easy/typical life but he managed to maintain his family and being an amazing artist/creator. Always up again. End of story.
I kept even the “bad opinions” like that, because of the pics and ‘cause I fucking kept everything I could ‘cause not so much stuff then. And because in one way or another, I suppose I’ve always loved/needed suffering.
And now with the article there (again from Fantastic, Jan 1995)
They programmed “Running on Empty” in La2 a few times more. La2 is the channel here for not so typical movies (the classics, indies, Spanish & Europe cinema, whatever) so ROE is very La2 (Indy3 is more Tele5, LOL).
I already had it recorded from the first time they showed it, but I loved when they programmed it again ‘cause new ads while the week, and info in magazines and those things.
The article basically says he did it really good in ROE and that his acting in this film was a good thing to remember how great he could have been if… you know.

Look, mom, I’m on everlasting-talent!
Well, I’m not, HE is ;-)
I sent to Veronique some of the old ones I have in paper. She have there almost all of them (a lot are the typical ones) and sometimes I discover I scanned somes I could have taken with more quality from there (my scan is a bitch) so I just sent 7 from SuperPOP and 2 covers (Fantastic & Fotogramas ones).
everlasting-talent.com is my fucking River Pic Bible on internet: so many galleries, photoshoots, magazine, scans, caps… you can “watch” the movies with those caps, really, so I felt in debt with her ‘cause the site is a paradise for me, is all I ever wanted while child and I couldn’t have then. I still in debt but I least I participate with something :)
So thank YOU, Veronique, thanks for maintaining that amazing Phoenix site, you’re a real devoted fan, you work hard and really fast, ALL THE AWARDS, ALL THE FEELINGS AND ALL THOSE THINGS!!! :´)
RIVER BOOKS (4): JAPAN - LONELY
Title: “Lonely Boy. River Phoenix”.
Author: Several phographers.
Type: Photographs + text
Technical info: 1994, 112 pages, Japanese, 26 X 18 cm, 580 gr, softcover.
Available now? Used ones eBay (3).
Translated versions? Nope.
The pics: As all the Japanese ones, very good (and sexy) ones. Besides it has those cute drawings, awww.
The text: No fucking idea ‘cause I don’t understand Japanese: it could say he was a great man or a bitch, but usually Japanese people/authors love him and is a tribute book so I suppose there will be good things there.
Adorable. I’m going to learn Japanese just for these ones xD

Playing a bit with this one scanned from “River Phoenix: A short life”,
I love his wild hair there :)
RIVER BOOKS (3): LAWRENCE’S BIOGRAPHY
To julicious and everyone that likes to read a bit about the boy.
Title: “In search of River Phoenix”.
Author: Barry Lawrence.
Type: Biography (+B/W pics).
Technical info: 2004, 456 pages, English, 8.8 x 6.9 x 1.2 inches, 1.8 pounds, paperback middle size (“rústica”).
Available now? Used ones on Amazon (2 new, 8 used and Kindle edition), eBay (10 new), Iberlibro/AbeBooks (3). Price varies. No translated editions (at least now or that I know).
The book: Perfect complement to Glatt’s one. Although I always scream because it has some errors (i. e. the Lestat/Louis thing) or “silly” things for me (astrology, reading palms) is a very complete book. A lot of info and research there, quotes from different people, curious good & bad things (more than the typical info), rare pics, different PoVs… and a great time line :)
I think it’s a perfect combo with the other one for every fan (real fans, I mean, the ones beyond “the pretty pics” thing). Again, an emotional rollercoaster.
(pic = scan of mine while it was OK… my cats played a bit with the cover xD)
This is a well known one (here in everlastin-talent complete & smaller) so I leave a detail from my in-paper-scanned one :)
